The book outlines various aspects of miracles, and examines how they can be used to enhance your life. However, some people have concerns about the book. Here are some of them.
Circumstances surrounding the controversy
Having worked in the A Course in Miracles community for more than a decade, I’ve seen a few apex predators on my watch. But there is no denying that Robert Wapnick has been the nastiest of the narcissistic type. And no doubt his name will be etched into the permanent record books. I think he’s the one to thank for the existence of the aforementioned Circle of Atonement.
Obviously, I’m not going to get into a full-blown debate on this topic, but I’m going to make a few observations. For example, there’s been a lot of talk about Perry’s recent book, and a tad too much focus on the man himself. As for the rest of the community, I have yet to see any significant progress.
Circumstances surrounding the FIP version
Throughout the years, there have been various circumstances surrounding the FIP version of miracles circle of atonement. These circumstances involve both the people who taught and wrote the original manuscripts of A Course in Miracles, as well as the original publishers of the text.
The Foundation for Inner Peace (FIP) was the first publisher of A Course in Miracles and held the copyright until 1976. They sued anyone who tried to use the text without their permission. The first edition of A Course in Miracles was printed in three hardback volumes. It contains two sections: CLARIFICATION OF TERMS and MANUAL FOR TEACHERS. a course in miracles includes a concordance.
However, this version of the text was edited extensively as if it were being censored. It contains 60,000 words less than the UR Text. It does not include the term “Spiritual Eye” and a large part of the text is sanatized. It also has a dense style and does not reflect the original manuscripts.
The original manuscripts for A Course in Miracles were not published until 2000, after a search in the Association of Research and Enlightenment (ARE) Library revealed it. This version contains over 14% of the text that was removed when the Hugh Lynn Cayce (HLC) version was edited. The first eight chapters of the Text were reinstated, and the type setting was correct.
The Circle of Atonement is a group of people who are students of A Course in Miracles. It was formed in response to the teaching activity of Robert Perry. It sued the Foundation for A Course in Miracles, as well as other entities, for copyright infringement. The Foundation for A Course in Miracles then asked the Circle of Atonement to stop publishing and distributing the course. It also threatened the Course in Miracles Society with a restraining order.

Circumstances surrounding the COA version
Several circumstances have arisen surrounding the COA version of the Course in Miracles. One of them was the lawsuit brought against Ted Poppe by the Foundation for Inner Peace. The Foundation for Inner Peace claimed that the COA version of the Course in Miracles was being sold without permission. The lawsuit was won by Ted Dawson.
The COA version of the Course in Miracles is based on the dictation of Helen Schucman. She and Bill Thetford divided the text of the Course into sections, giving titles to each. They believed that the material was for them personally. They also removed some material from the early chapters. They hoped that by doing so, they could have a better relationship.
Helen claimed responsibility for the form of the Course and for the content, but never the actual editorial decisions. When her ego became involved, she would have removed anything she felt did not “read right”. She also called corrections to her mishearing “scribal errors”.
During the first few weeks of the Course’s dictation, Helen was much more personal. She also did not view the Course as sacred text. She only wanted to show volume IV.
Bill was a more experienced student of the Course and was not as willing to edit. The course was very psychoanalytic and deviated from Freudian psychology. He did not have the patience to edit the Course. He was homosexual. The course was published in 1976. The Foundation for Inner Peace sued anyone who tried to sell or distribute the Course without permission.
The course is a three-volume set of books, each of which includes 50 miracle principles. It is a thought system that blends spiritual inspiration with deep psychological understanding. It is taught in a question-and-answer format.
The Course in Miracles has gained a following among spiritual gurus, yoga teachers and other modern spiritual leaders. It has been sold to people of all religious backgrounds and has benefited thousands of people. The book has been edited and published numerous times.
The original version of the Course in Miracles was published in 1976. It was followed by two subsequent versions. The original text was published by the Course in Miracles Society.
